Golden Globe Nominations


Another group of nominations were released today, its time for the Golden Globes!  A lot of differences between the SAG nominations, definitely a few surprises, both good and bad. Take a look!


Best motion picture, drama

"12 Years a Slave"
"Captain Phillips"
"Gravity"
"Philomena"
"Rush"

Wow, I'm really surprised that The Butler isn't here, I thought it was much, much better then 12 Years a Slave. Really disappointed in this list. I'd have to go with Gravity I think. I really enjoyed it and it was beautiful.

Best motion picture, musical or comedy

"American Hustle"
"Her"
"Inside Llewyn Davis"
"Nebraska"
"The Wolf of Wall Street"

I haven't seen any of these films yet, many haven't been released so its hard to say. Really looking forward to American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street though. However, I've heard a lot of great things about Nebraska so there may be a chance that it pulls everything off.

Best Actress in a motion picture, drama

Cate Blanchett "Blue Jasmine"
Sandra Bullock - "Gravity"
Judi Dench - "Philomena
Emma Thompson - "Saving Mr. Banks"
Kate Winslet - "Labor Day"

I haven't seen a lot of these films, but from what I've seen I think Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet have a pretty good shot. Cannot believe that Oprah isn't nominated for this one. I thought she was AMAZING in The Butler.

Best Actor in a motion picture, drama

Chiwetel Ejiofor - "12 Years a Slave"
Idris Elba - "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom"
Tom Hanks - "Captain Phillips"
Matthew McConaughey - "Dallas Buyers Club"
Robert Redford - "All Is Lost"

Again, haven't seen a lot of these, but I think Matthew McConaughey has a really great chance of winning.

Best Actress in a motion picture, musical or comedy

Amy Adams - "American Hustle"
Julie Delpy - "Before Midnight"
Greta Gerwig - "Frances Ha"
Julia Louis-Dreyfus - "Enough Said"
Meryl Streep - "August: Osage County"

Meryl Streep looks like she did a great job in August: Osage County.

Best Actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy

Christian Bale - "American Hustle"
Bruce Dern - "Nebraska"
Leonardo DiCaprio - "The Wolf Of Wall Street"
Oscar Isaac - "Inside Llewyn Davis"
Joaquin Phoenix - "Her"

I have yet to see any of these but as far as I can tell they all look like they gave some amazing performances. I'd love to see Christian Bale or Leonardo DiCaprio get it.

Best supporting Actress in a motion picture

Sally Hawkins - "Blue Jasmine"
Jennifer Lawrence - "American Hustle"
Lupita Nyong'o - "12 Years a Slave"
Julia Roberts - "August: Osage County"
June Squibb - "Nebraska"

Really tough to say but from what I've seen Julia Roberts looks like she has a pretty good chance.

Best supporting Actor in a motion picture

Barkhad Abdi - "Captain Phillips"
Daniel Brühl - "Rush"
Bradley Cooper - "American Hustle"
Michael Fassbender - "12 Years a Slave"
Jared Leto - "Dallas Buyers Club"

I'd say that Jared Leto has the best chance, but Michael Fassbender also did a really great job.

Best Director – motion picture

Alfonso Cuarón - "Gravity"
Paul Greengrass - "Captain Phillips"
Steve McQueen - "12 Years a Slave"
Alexander Payne - "Nebraska"
David O. Russell - "American Hustle"

Tough call, I've only seen a few so I can't really give a definite answer but I'd say Gravity or American Hustle. Really hope 12 Years a Slave doesn't win, I was super disappointed with that one.

Best Screenplay – motion picture

Spike Jonze - "Her"
Bob Nelson - "Nebraska"
Jeff Pope and Steve Coogan - "Philomena"
John Ridley - "12 Years a Slave"
Eric Warren Singer and David O. Russell - "American Hustle"

I've only seen 12 Years A Slave, and I think I've already made it clear that it does not have my vote, but David O. Russell has a great track record so I think he and Eric Warren Singer with American Hustle  have a good shot.

Best Foreign Language Film

"Blue is the Warmest Color"
"The Great Beauty"
"The Hunt"
"The Past"
"The Wind Rises"

I have seen none of these so I can't comment.

Best Animated Feature film

"The Croods"
"Despicable Me 2"
"Frozen"

I haven't seen Frozen yet and I've heard fantastic things about it so I'll have to wait and see, but The Croods and Despicable Me 2 were both really great so I'm fine with any of these choices.

Best TV series, drama

"Breaking Bad"
"Downton Abbey"
"The Goodwife"
"House of Cards"
"Masters of Sex"

I find it really difficult to choose a favourite out of these. Television is really killing it these days. I think Breaking Bad would be good as this is its last chance to win. However I love Downton Abbey and House of Cards also.

Best TV Series, Comedy

"The Big Bang Theory"
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine"
"Girls"
"Modern Family"
"Parks and Recreation"

 Some great ones here but I think my top choice would be Parks and Recreation. Girls and Parks and Recreation would also be great though.

Best TV movie or mini-series

"American Horror Story: Coven"
"Behind the Candelabra"
"Dancing on the Edge"
"Top of the Lake"
"The White Queen"

I haven't seen all of these but I absolutely loved Top of the Lake.

Top 10 Non-Cartoon Kids Movies

13 June 2013 So its been more then a month since posting anything, but for me summer has come and I'm working full time. However, I got a new position this week that leave me more time on the computer so you'll probably and hopefully see more of me from now on. Most of these films I'd say are more directed towards 7-12 year olds. I'd say maybe Labyrinth, Space Jam and Matilda might be an exception for those. Its not that the rest aren't appropriate for them, but more that they might not like them as much. Top 10 80s Teen/Brat Pack Movies

Like I said, I've decided I want to try and do a new post every Sunday. I've decided that what I'm actually going to do is to have a Top 10 list every Sunday. The last few I've done have been a lot of fun so I figure, why not make it a new thing. Hopefully some people out there will enjoy them! So here they are: my list of Top 10 80's Teen/Brat Pack movies. 10.) Dirty Dancing I put this last, only because I was iffy on even putting it on the list because its not really a "Brat Pack" film, or the kind of "high school" movie I had intended, but she is a teen so I think it counts. Great coming of age/ discovering love movie.

Top 5 Scorsese Films

Top 5 Scorsese Films On my Top 10 Directors list Scorsese topped it. I absolutely adore his films, he absolutely mastered crime thrillers. All of his films have a lot of grit to them, but they always have so many amazing twists and turns. If you haven't seen any of his films, check yourself, because his films are fantastic. For those of you who might disagree with some of the films I left out, I haven't seen Raging Bull so, apologies that it will not break the top 5, but it IS under honourable mentions!
